Our evolving gallery and mural on Mass Ave launches!

How's it going everybody? In case you didn't know, Thursday October 18th was the launch of the Community Art Center's evolving community mural / gallery funded by Novartis. The mural is located on the construction walkway beside the Novartis construction site on Massachusetts Avenue between Albany and Windsor Streets. It is a place for youth at the Community Art Center, and members of the Area 4 community to show off their artistic talents, and to express the way they feel about their community. To be completed in four parts, the mural will highlight the rich diversity of Cambridge and Area 4. Our youth will work with 4 different mural artists in four stages to turn the walls of the walkway into an artistic corridor.

While the first mural gets underway, the members of the construction crew site on site helped the Community Art Center create a central gallery of youth artwork. Showcased in a dozen enclosed picture frames, the gallery features work from Community Art Center youth as well as alumnus, Rayjaun Pollard. Youth with art on view in the gallery are Sofia, Mariam, Marquis, Robel, Matthew, Francheska ,  and Tatiyana.

During the opening reception there was a live band performing,  delicious food was served by  Kick Ass Cupcakes, and  a live graffiti mural was made by one of our mural artists Geobany Rodriguez with help from some of the kids at the Community Art Center.  The gallery and quotes on the wall represent a part of our diverse community, and there is still more to come!!!!

The first mural section, led by artist Laura Smith is scheduled to open at the end of the year. Neighboring residents, business owners, employees, students, and pedestrians are invited to enjoy the art and learn about their community.
